This eBook is a collection of eight historical novels concerning the Roman Empire. Some of these stories, like “Ben Hur” are still popular today; others like “Quo Vadis?” by Henryk Sienkiewicz were hugely popular when first published but have unjustly fallen out of favor.
This eBook contains:
+The Lions Brood by Duffield Osborne: A story of the war between Rome and Carthage (whose forces were led by Hannibal) taking place in about 200 BC.
+A Friend of Caesar by W. S. Davis: Chronicles the fall of the Roman Republic, brought about by enmity between Pompey and Julius Caesar.
+Ben Hur: A Tale of the Christ by Lew Wallace: The story of two friends – a Roman and a Jew – around the time of the birth of Christ. The Jewish man becomes, as the story evolves, a follower of Jesus. This was the best-selling American novel post-civil war until the publication of “Gone with the Wind.”
+Beric the Briton by G. A. Henty: The story of the Roman invasion of Britain and the subsequent rebellion by Queen Boudica.
+Quo Vadis? by Henryk Sienkiewicz: A story of Rome during the time of Nero (mid first century AD), this novel tells the tale of the love between a Christian woman and a Roman aristocrat. Sienkiewicz won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1905 for this and other novels. The author took great pains to make the novel as historically accurate as possible.
